Sir Robert Martin-Sydnor, 28, was arrested June 21 by Dayton police after an 8 hour standoff. A warrant for his arrest was issued June 10 and he is charged with murder in Columbus.

A Columbus murder suspect is in custody after an 8-hour standoff with Dayton police, SWAT teams and U.S. marshals.

Police say 28-year-old Sir Robert Martin-Sydnor was arrested in Dayton Wednesday night following a U.S. Marshals strike team investigation with the help of several Dayton area SWAT teams. Sydnor was wanted for murder by Columbus police.

Police responded to the 2000 block of Catalpa Drive in northwest Dayton at an apartment complex on Wednesday around 2:30 p.m.

Authorities say Martin-Sydnor barricaded himself for eight hours and held a 73-year-old man hostage inside the man's apartment. The suspect reportedly communicated with police on Facebook messenger and a live stream, threatening to use weapons, until officials arrested him, after using tear gas to get him to come outside.

Montgomery County SWAT, Dayton SWAT, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and U.S. Marshals all assisted in the arrest.

Columbus police had issued a search warrant for Martin-Sydnor on murder charges, after police say he shot and killed Raphael Jones in East Linden on June 9 after the two fought.

No injuries were reported and Martin-Sydnor will remain in the Montgomery County Jail until he is extradited to Franklin County.
