Construction will start in July on a $112 million project to widen State Route 161 between I-270 and U.S. 62 in Franklin and Licking counties.
Widening the road with a new lane in each direction will help Central Ohioans traverse the area as Intel adds a semiconductor manufacturing plant and population booms around it in Franklin and Licking counties. The project's website said the new lanes should be ready by November 2024.
In addition to adding a lane in each direction on S.R. 161 and I-270, the project also includes widening the ramp from SR 161 west to I-270 north.
Other work on the project would be fully finished by Summer 2025.
During the duration of the project, the following entrance and exit ramps might see detours. The project's website does not give exact dates for the potential detours:
- SR161 and I-270 access at Sunbury Road
- SR161 and I-270 access at Little Turtle Way
- SR161 at Hamilton Road
- SR161 at New Albany Road
- SR161 at Johnstown Road/U.S. 62
A project overview says ramp closures will be temporary and will not occur simultaneously between interchanges.
