Columbus Police were in full force over the weekend in the Short North in an effort to limit gun violence in the area.

The increased police presence came as new rules took effect forcing food carts and trucks in the Short North to close at midnight.

Mayor Andrew Ginther also asked—but did not require—other businesses to close at the same time. Many bars and restaurants remained open until 2 a.m. over the weekend.

WOSU asked how many more officers patrolled the area over the weekend, but a division spokeswoman said in a statement that CPD does not give out exact patrol numbers.

She did say, however, that some officers were on overtime pay for their role in what CPD is calling "Operation Burnout."

Over Friday and Saturday, the division said it issued over 200 traffic and nearly 300 parking citations.

Officers made seven felony arrests and arrested eight others on outstanding warrants. Seven guns were also recovered.

Columbus City Council votes Monday night to codify the mayor's recent executive order meant to curb gun violence in the arts district.
