A Columbus police detective has been indicted for a hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead last year.

A grand jury indicted Demetris Ortega, 49, on felony charges of failing to stop after an accident and a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle under the influence.

Prosecutors say he hit and killed Naimo Abdirahman who was walking across Morse Road at 2:41 a.m. on April 20, 2022.

Police said a passenger got out of the vehicle and called 911 before getting back in and leaving the scene with Ortega.
