Permanent lighting is being installed in the University District off-campus area, replacing mobile lighting put up at the start of the fall semester.
OSU added mobile lighting last fall in University District areas frequented by students and the campus community to help fill in the gaps of existing lighting. Now the university is working with partners in the city of Columbus to get permanent structures installed.
President Kristina M. Johnson said lighting is part of Ohio State's suite of safety and health enhancements.
“We continue to be dedicated to a holistic approach to safety,” said Johnson.
Johnson also said that The Ohio State University Police (OSUPD) is an important element in this approach. Nine new OSUPD officers were sworn in in 2021, and four more were sworn in this week. Johnson said recruitment, hiring and training of more officers is to come.
