Columbus Police Say Kids Killed In Triple Slaying May Have Been Targets

The Columbus Division of Police provided an update on last week's triple homicide on the city's southeast side. Detective Terry Kelley said he believes the shooters involved in last week's shooting which resulted in the death of a young man and two children "absolutely knew" the children were in the car. Kelly said at this point in the investigation, he believes the children might have been the targets.

"Whether they were the target of that shooting or not, I can't say 100% for sure, but I do believe they knew they were in the car," Kelley said.

Police said officers responded to reports of shots fired last week at an apartment complex on Kodiak Drive, near Canal Winchester. All three people killed were found inside a car.

Police said the three were sitting in the car when two armed suspects approached it and began firing without any warning. The suspects left the scene in a vehicle driven by a third person, police said.

Kelly is urging anyone who has any information on the shooting to come forward. He said Crimestoppers of Central Ohio is offering a reward for information.
