Franklin County first responders started receiving their first doses of coronavirus vaccine Monday.
Franklin County Public Health opened its first COVID-19 vaccination clinic to give the vaccine to EMS workers, saying they "provide critical services in our communities and are routinely involved with the care of COVID-19 patients."

In addition to the EMS personnel, 11 fire chiefs from suburban departments received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

All of those injected Monday can get their second dose in 28 days, and will then start helping with vaccine distribution.

Front-line health care workers at major hospitals were the first Ohioans to get the vaccine, starting two weeks ago. Employees and residents at long-term care facilities started getting vaccinated next, through a partnership with the CDC.

Gov. Mike DeWine recently said that school teachers and employees would be next in line for vaccinations, followed by Ohioans over the age of 65, but no start dates have been announced for those distribution phases.

The governor said Ohio would receive 500,000 doses of the vaccine by the end of December.
