The League of Women Voters is partnering with the Columbus Metropolitan Library to host a series of forums with local candidates in the run-up to Ohio's election.

Ohio's deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 5, and early voting begins the next day.

The moderated forums began last week with the candidates running for the 24th district seat in the Ohio House – Democratic incumbent Allison Russo and Republican challenger Pat Manley.

Monday night they’ll feature candidates running for the 3rd congressional district, including Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty, Republican Mark Richardson, and write-ins Angela Davis and Nicholas Moss.

“And then on October 6, we will be talking to the candidates for the Franklin County prosecutor’s office,” says Gregg Dodd from the Columbus Library.

Longtime Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien, a Republican, is running for reelection this year against Democrat Gary Tyack.

Next week, the library will have forums for the Ohio Senate, Franklin County Commission and judicial openings.

"Any public library's role is to provide information and access to that information to the community that it serves,” Dodd says. “And Columbus Metropolitan Library, we take that very, very seriously. So that's particularly important when it comes time for the elections."

The events run live at 7 p.m., and the organizations will put recordings online afterwards.
