For the first time in seven years, the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians have both made the postseason.

Cincinnati became the National League’s seventh seed and will play No. 2 seed Atlanta starting Wednesday at noon in Atlanta.

The Cleveland Indians are staying home for the first round of the postseason with the New York Yankees coming to town starting on Tuesday. The opener features a prime pitching matchup, with Cy Young Award favorite Shane Bieber scheduled to face Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.

Major League Baseball expanded the playoff field to 16 teams due to the pandemic-altered season.

The best-of-three wild-card round begins Tuesday with four American League games. The National League games start Wednesday. There will be no fans permitted in ballparks for the opening round.

The Reds and Indians have never met in the World Series.
