Gov. Mike DeWine’s plan to re-open Ohio’s economy allows beauty salons and barbershops to get back in business Friday, May 15. The plan also allows restaurants to open patio seating.
Katzinger’s general manager Seth Wensinger says there won’t be much prep needed for the transition other than setting up the tables. His employees won’t be waiting on patrons, but rather will allow them to eat packed food outside.
“It’s really just a continuation of our takeout service, but there will be tables outside,” Wensinger says. “We don’t have an official enclosed patio, it’s more like sidewalk seating.”
He does not plan to open inside dining next week, although the state allows it.
“We’re just sort of waiting a while to see how things play out,” Wensinger says. “We’ll continue with the patio, but we haven’t made a decision on when we’d be opening up the dining room yet.”
Jaime Newman is a stylist at Rapunzel’s Long Hair Salon in German Village. She says the salon typically took one or two customers at a time before the COVID-19 pandemic, and they’ll continue doing so.
“We’re doing a lot of sanitizing before tomorrow,” Newman says.
Newman is sending customers waivers that ask them not to visit the salon if they’ve traveled in the past 14 days or been in contact with someone who has COVID-19. Customers will be asked to wait in their cars until their appointments start.
“We’re excited to get back into business, but we’re also taking it one day at a time,” Newman says.
Some restaurants and salons are choosing to not open Friday out of caution, or due to an inability to acquire personal protective equipment.
