For the fourth Monday in a row, there will be no Columbus City Council meeting due to the coronavirus pandemic. Council last met on March 16, just two days before Mayor Andrew Ginther declared a state of emergency for the city.
Council President Shannon Hardin says that declaration, an abundance of caution, and a desire to model good social distancing led them to the hiatus.
"When a city council meeting takes place, there's a pyramid effect of other meetings that have to take place under that and all of them start to grow much larger than 10 people," Hardin said.
Hardin says that they'll meet next in one week on April 20. Even that will be part virtual, with some members attending by video conference.
Citizens will be allowed into city hall, but they're encouraged to participate by phone or email. In the meantime, council continues to hold virtual town halls each Tuesday.
