A grand jury filed a second indictment Friday against suspended Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader.
A representative from the Court of Common Pleas in Pike County called the filing an “amended indictment” that includes 18 charges, two more than the original filing against the sheriff in June.
Friday's filing includes one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, which is a first-degree felony and the most series charge Reader has faced to-date.
Both the June indictment and Friday's filing charge Reader with theft in office, tampering with evidence and conflict of interest, among other allegations.
The allegations originally stem from an anonymous complaint that accused the sheriff of using money seized by his department during drug investigations for his own personal use.
Reader received national attention as he investigated the murders of the Rhoden family in 2016 with state authorities. He's been suspended since this summer and an interim sheriff is currently performing his duties.
