Preliminary data from Franklin County Public Health show 380 Franklin County residents died of an overdose between January and September 2019. That is a 9% increase from the same period in 2018.

Despite significant citywide efforts to combat the opioid epidemic, it appears as though overdose deaths will be higher in 2019 than they were in 2018. The Franklin County Coroner reported a similar trend last week.

Columbus Public Health will hold a public meeting Tuesday at 3 p.m. at their offices to discuss the 2020 Columbus And Franklin County Addiction Plan.

The health commissioner and the mayor will discuss goals and strategies to combat further deaths in Franklin County.
