The Pike County prosecutor says he's contacted the FBI and the Ohio Attorney General's office after a video emerged showing a Sheriff's deputy macing and repeatedly punching a restrained inmate.
A press release from Interim Sheriff James Nelson says now-former Deputy Jeremy Mooney resigned after the Sheriff's Office recommended he be terminated. Mooney's supervisor, Sgt. Tim Stansberry, was reprimanded for not intervening.
"Prior to the disciplinary hearing Deputy Mooney tendered his resignation. During the disciplinary hearing, it was decided Sgt. Stansberry would be demoted in rank and serve a two week suspension," said Nelson in the release.
An 11-minute video shot at the Sheriff's Office on November 18 shows Mooney pepper spraying the inmate on a sidewalk outside the office, and then punching him a total of 11 times inside the office after the inmate spit on him.

Pike County Prosecutor Rob Junk tells WBNS he's certain the inmate will sue the county, and he questions why the Sheriff's Office hasn't arrested Mooney. Junk says he's asked the local FBI office and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to see if they’ll investigate.
Calls to the Pike County Sheriff’s office were not immediately returned.
