Central Ohio is seeing unseasonably frigid weather as a wave of arctic air blankets the Midwest.
Temperatures were nearly 20 degrees early Tuesday morning. Commuters were also battling the first snowy conditions of the season after 3 inches of snow fell on some parts of Central Ohio.
NBC 4 meteorologist Ben Gelber says that might not be much for the dead of winter, but it's a rarity for mid-November.
"But this is still extraordinary for Central Ohio," he says, "because at least over the last century-and-a half there have been fewer than a dozen times when we’ve had an inch or more of snow on or before Veterans Day."
The storm also brought some freezing rain and isolated power outages around Central Ohio.
The forecasted high for Tuesday and the low for Wednesday could break records, but Gelber says temperatures should jump higher soon.
"We'll bounce back into the 40s after that, which is still chilly for this time of the year," he says. "Remember our average high is near 55, and right now we’re on pace to be about the coldest November on record."
