A Columbus man charged in the brutal killing of two post office workers has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
DeShaune Stewart appeared in federal court in Columbus on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old is facing the death penalty for two counts of murder in the death of his supervisors, Lance Herrera-Dempsey and Ginger Ballard, in December 2017.
Psychologists had determined Stewart had suffered manic and psychotic episodes at the time of the crimes and was not fully aware of his actions.
Authorities say Stewart had arrived naked at a post office in Dublin and killed Herrera-Dempsey before driving to Ballard's apartment and beating her to death in the parking lot.
The 25-year-old is set to be evaluated by the court to determine whether he remains a threat to others.
