Columbus Police confirmed a shooting occurred near the McDonald's on High Street near The Ohio State University campus after midnight Sunday.

One person was injured in the incident, and police say it was not a random act. Police identified the victim as Wesley Powers Jr., 21.

According to police, Powers was standing in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m. when the suspect fired several gunshots, one of which hit the victim in the thigh.

The suspect fled the scene and has not been arrested. Powers was brought to the Ohio State hospital and has since been reported in stable condition.

A Buckeye Alert went out to students and faculty at 1:37 a.m. Sunday morning, saying there was an active attacker reported on campus. The alert told recipients to "run, hide, or, as a last resort, fight."

Ohio State Police tweeted that the shooter fled Eastbound and was wearing a black hoodie and a cowboy hat.
