A planned year-long renovation of the Ohio Statehouse garage is set to begin this week.
The garage renovation starting Monday is considered the biggest Statehouse update since a complete renovation in the 1990s. The three-level underground garage was built in 1964 and last restored in 1993.
The renovation has been scheduled for a while, but the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board said earlier this year that ceilings and floors on the bottom two floors of the garage were worse off than anticipated.
The advisory board says drivers will have access to each level during construction. The board says about 300 spaces, or one-quarter of the total, will be affected by the renovation during the project.
