Columbus City Hall has picked someone with close ties to the construction industry and organized labor to fill its latest vacancy.
Council members on Monday appointed Rob Dorans to fill the seat vacated by Michael Stinziano, who resigned last week to prepare for his next job as Franklin County Auditor.
Dorans is chief legal counsel for Affiliated Construction Trades Ohio, an organization that advocates for construction-related labor groups and workers. He’s also a commissioner with Columbus’ Recreation and Parks Department.
Dorans’ appointment follows Council selecting new member Shayla Favor, a former assistant Columbus City Attorney, to fill the seat vacated by former member Jaiza Page.
Council members picked Dorans and Favor after two open meetings that allowed public comment on 15 finalists. The public hearing element is part of a charter amendment approved by Columbus voters last year.
Since 1997, three people have been elected to their first stint on council. Dorans is the 19th member to have been appointed to fill a vacancy.
