Strong winds have downed trees and power lines and led to power outages across many parts of Ohio.
American Electric Power said on Monday morning that 63,824 Ohio customers were without electricity. That includes about 8,000 in the Columbus area.An outage pushed Columbus City Schools to close Forest Park Elementary on Monday.
There were reports of winds gusts up to 50 mph across Franklin County and surrounding areas of central Ohio downing trees and power lines, with similar conditions across much of southern Ohio.
Thousands of outages were reported as of Sunday afternoon in areas of northeast Ohio, including Cuyahoga Lake, Lorain, Medina and Summit counties.
Meteorologist Kristen Cassady at the weather service's Wilmington office says gusts of 50 mph were expected to end late Sunday night, with gusts from 30 to 40 mph possible in some areas overnight.
Breezy conditions are expected on Monday.
