A newly released report from Ohio’s inspector general found businesses were improperly certified for a state program.
The Economic Diversity Growth and Equity or EDGE program is meant to support disadvantaged businesses, and those owned by minorities or women, in the state.
The Inspector General found the Ohio Department of Administrative Services certified CTL Engineering for the program, despite the fact the firm brought in $14.5 million dollars locally and $35.5 million total in 2016.
In addition the investigation also found that the department had improperly re-certified hundreds of businesses, despite the fact they had exceeded the program’s 10-year cap. Ten recommendations for corrective action will be sent to the Ohio Auditor for considerations.
In order for a business to be certified as EDGE, the organization must comply with eligibility rules, including meeting net worth and size thresholds.
