As the number of people potentially sickened after eating at a Powell Chipotle restaurant climbs, the cause of the illnesses remains unknown.

The Delaware County General Health District said Thursday afternoon that 683 people have reached out to them about the fast-casual eatery on Sawmill Parkway.

Customers have reported symptoms including vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.

A Delaware man filed a lawsuit against the company on Tuesday.

Health officials say it’s still not clear what led to the outbreak. While the food-borne pathogen has not yet been identified, the program manager for the health district’s food protection and public safety unit says they collected leftover food samples and requested stool samples from those who got sick.

So far, officials say the samples tested negative for Salmonella, Shigella, E.coli and Norovirus.

Chipotle voluntarily closed the restaurant on Tuesday, but reopened after a positive inspection by Delaware County health officials.
