Columbus Police Sergeant Relieved Of Duty Amid Investigation

Columbus Division of Police public information officer Sgt. Dean Worthington has been relieved of duty amid a criminal investigation.

Worthington was relieved on Tuesday, July 17, according to police spokesperson Denise Alex-Bouzounis. When Worthington returns to work, the division will assign him to desk duty.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is in charge of the investigation.

The reason for and scope of the investigation are not yet clear. WOSU is reaching out to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for more information.

Worthington took on the role of public information officer in September 2017.
