On Monday, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) will present awards to four first responders who've been impactful in helping their communities deal with the opiate epidemic.
It's the first time Portman is handing out the CARES Awards at Ohio's annual Opiate Conference luncheon.
Around 1,200 people will attend the conference for two full days of education related to the opiate crisis, including aspects like treatment, prevention, and recovery supports. It's hosted at the Hyatt Regency Columbus at 350 N. High St.
Portman’s portion of the event, which is sold out, runs from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
The awards are aimed at people who do any work that may be related to the crisis, including physicians, social workers and pharmacists. No information has been provided about the recipients.
The event is hosted by the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
