Ohio State Investigates After Two People Fall From Same Parking Garage

Two people within four days have fallen from the same parking garage on Ohio State's campus, spurring the university to investigate what safety measures it should take.

Last Thursday, sophomore Daniel Birdsall died at the hospital after he either fell or jumped from the upper level of the Ohio Union South Garage.

Then, on Sunday afternoon, an unnamed former Ohio State student fell from the same garage, according to a statement from the university. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police are investigating the incident and do not suspect foul play. Ohio State says it will release more details as they become available.

This is not the first time a student has been killed falling from the Ohio Union South Garage. In February 2017, student Madison Paul died after falling from the garage.

Ohio State is reviewing all campus parking garages in an effort to identifying any potential changes that could prevent future tragedies, but officials say there's nothing set in stone yet.

The university plans to increase police and security foot patrols in the coming days. Ohio State is offering additional mental health and counseling resources for students following the incidents.
