Columbus City Schools and most other Central Ohio districts are closed on Monday after overnight freezing rain covered the region in ice.
Traffic was crawling into downtown Columbus on Monday morning, with many injury accidents. Several Central Ohio counties, including Marion and Union, were under Level One snow emergencies.
Freezing rain switched mostly to snow by 7 am. Forecasts call for snow, freezing rain and rain to mix through Monday morning, and turn to strictly rain by the afternoon.
The entire state of Ohio was under a winter weather advisory on Monday morning.
The city of Columbus said in an emailed statement that the Department of Public Safety had about 60 trucks in service and about 23,000 tons of salt on hand.
