A federal criminal complaint has been filed against disgruntled Dublin postal worker, who is accused of murdering two U.S. government employees for performing their official duties.
Police say Deshaune Stewart, 24, fatally shot his supervisor, 52-year-old Lance Dempsey, at a post office in suburban Dublin on Saturday morning before killing the postmaster outside her apartment.
After being called about an armed man chasing a woman at the nearby Bowland Place North apartment complex, police found Postmaster Ginger Ballard dead between vehicles with blunt-force trauma to her head. Stewart was arrested, and was arraigned Wednesday on charges including aggravated murder.
Authorities say Stewart was naked during both attacks, and the violence appeared to be retaliation against his pending dismissal at work.
The complaint, signed by a U.S. postal inspector, was filed Wednesday in U.S. district court in Columbus. A federal spokeswoman says Stewart remains in state custody, and a county court record earlier indicated that a mental evaluation was ordered.
No attorney was listed for Stewart.
