Columbus City Schools raised about $21 million when it sold some of its’ valuable land near downtown at an auction Tuesday.
The former Africentric school at 300 Livingston Avenue included about seven-and-a-half half acres of prime real estate between downtown and German Village. It sold at the auction for just over $15 million to Nationwide Children's Hospital, the only bidder. For now, the hospital is expected to demolish the building and make the property a parking lot.
The old Fifth Avenue Elementary Building in the Short North sold for nearly $5.3 million to Clark Street Holdings LLC.
The Maennerchor property next to Stewart Elementary in the Brewery District sold to Galbreath Properties LLC for $460,000.
A school district spokesman says the sales come as part of an overhaul to identify which buildings are no longer needed and where money can be raised for capital improvements and deferred maintenance. The school board still needs to approve the sales.
