In the middle of an ongoing investigation by the FBI, the Ohio Department of Medicaid has revoked privileges from an Ohio chain of for-profit addiction treatment centers called Braking Point.
Last week, the FBI raided the home of company owner Ryan Sheridan, as well as the both Braking Point locations in Whitehall and Youngstown.
In a letter to the company, the Ohio Department of Medicaid stated their privileges as a Medicaid provider had been revoked.
“Credible allegations of fraud exist based on evidence that your company is allowing a physician to dispense Suboxone without the proper authorization from the Drug Enforcement Agency," the department said.
Suboxone is a prescription opiate drug used in addiction treatment, to prevent withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
The Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services is the agency in charge of monitoring publicly-funded addiction treatment centers like Braking Point. In a statement, the department says they are helping Braking Point patients to find addiction treatment elsewhere.
The Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, as well as the Ohio Department of Medicaid and the FBI, declined to provide further comment while the investigation is ongoing.
Thomas Daily, co-owner of Braking Point, died of an opioid-related overdose back in July, according to the Trumbull county coroner.
