It was revealed today a Columbus man pled guilty in 2015 to plotting a terrorist attack in the U.S. The plea was sealed for two years because of an ongoing investigation.
Twenty five-year-old Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud was charged in 2015 with several federal counts of supporting terrorists and providing material to them. A federal grand jury also charged him with making false statements to the FBI involving international terrorism.
Officials say Mohamud, a Somali native, admitted to traveling overseas, receiving training from terrorists in Syria and seeking to obtain weapons to kill military officers or other government employees. Authorities say Mohamud researched places to carry out an attack on U.S. soil.
They say after his brother died, Mohamud returned to the U.S. He remains in custody while he waits his sentence.
