More than 5,000 Ohio residents who attended a string of failed for-profit colleges are now eligible for student loan forgiveness.
Attorney General Mike DeWine says the U.S. Department of Education will soon send letters to Ohioans who accrued student loan debt while enrolled in several programs offered by Corinthian Colleges.
The company that also operated Everest College and Everest University campuses abruptly shut down two years ago, and the DOE found school leaders made misleading claims about graduate employment rates. State officials are notifying eligible Ohioans as part of an outreach effort by attorneys general in 44 states.
A statement from DeWine’s office says eligible Ohioans will also be refunded for payments already made.
