Ohio’s state government is taking its show on the road with Gov. John Kasich preparing to deliver his annual State of the State speech Tuesday night in Sandusky.
This is the sixth time Kasich has moved the address out of Columbus. The administration says it's a way of bringing state government to the people.
Kasich is scheduled to speak around 7 p.m. at Sandusky’s State Theatre.
Several state departments are holding meetings and events around Sandusky Tuesday. The Ohio Department of Health will talk to citizens about the opioid epidemic, the Department of Natural Resources will tour parts of Lake Erie, and several agencies will host a forum on water quality.
The city of Sandusky hopes the issue of water quality will be front-and-center as policymakers get an inside look at their economy.
Kasich is preparing to deliver his State of the State speech just weeks before the expected release of a new book reflecting on his experiences in the contentious 2016 presidential election.
It's been clear since Kasich left the race last year that national political unity remains his focus. That could affect what he has to say Tuesday night.
Past governors have used their speeches to reveal or defend their budgets, but Kasich's budget was introduced nearly two months ago, making that theme unlikely.
