The Licking County Sheriff's Office says a deputy and his wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide inside their home Thursday night.
The department posted on Facebook early Friday morning saying deputies found Deputy David Lewandowski, 34, and his wife Elizabeth Lewandowski, 24, fatally shot in their home on Price Road just outside of Newark.
The sheriff’s office says the preliminary investigation indicates they died in a murder-suicide, although the office did not say which person was the suspected shooter.
David Lewandowski was assigned to the office’s patrol division. Elizabeth was a nurse at Licking Memorial Hospital.
The sheriff’s office says the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation will handle the investigation.
