Ohio’s official jobless rate remained unchanged and slightly above the nationwide average last month.

State labor officials said on Friday that December was the third-straight month Ohio had an unemployment rate of 4.9 percent. One Department of Job and Family Services survey of employers said they added some 10,000 jobs last month, while another survey of homes said about 4,000 Ohioans joined the ranks of the unemployed last month.

Construction was among the biggest losers by cutting about 2,800 jobs. State government shed about 4,000 positions.

December was a good month for manufacturing, professional and business services, and trade, transportation, and utilities.

Ohio’s jobless rate remains slightly above the nationwide average.
