State labor officials say Ohio's official unemployment increased again last month.
A Friday jobs report from the state Department of Job and Family Services says the jobless rate increased slightly from 4.8 percent in September to 4.9 percent in October. In October, about 5,000 Ohioans entered the ranks of the unemployed.
The October rate was also slightly higher than the same month a year earlier.
Ohio's best job gains last month came in goods-producing industries, which added about 6,400 jobs. That includes manufacturing, which grew by about 3,500 workers.
Sizable job gains were also reported in leisure and hospitality, and educational and health services.
Job losses came in the private service-providing sector (-6,000), professional and business services (-5,000), and trade, transportation, and utilities (-2,000).
Ohio's official unemployment rate is now even with the U.S. jobless rate.
