With Republican control of the White House in site, several members of Ohio’s Congressional delegation anticipate a flurry of legislative activity that will undo elements of the Obama Administration’s social initiatives. Ohio’s Republican U.S. Senator says he’s excited by the prospect.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Senator Rob Portman said he’ll work to pass legislation that will benefit Ohio.
“There are short-term opportunities in this next month for us to get some things done that I know will help Ohio. And so I want to get them done,” Portman said.
“And there’ll be plenty to do next year. If you look at health care and tax reform and regulatory relief and infrastructure improvements there’s a lot to be done."
Portman says conversations he’s having with Vice President-elect Mike Pence and comments by Donald Trump in post-election interviews have convinced him that getting major things done in Washington is going to be possible.
Portman did caution that any changes in Obamacare have to be phased in so people and companies involved won’t be left in the lurch.
Portman endorsed Donald Trump until a month before the election, when a tape emerged of Trump making sexually vulgar comments about women.
