Former Motel One on the city's east side had more than 500 police runs in about 5 years.

Two Columbus police officers will receive an award Thursday for distinguished service in community policing from the U.S. Attorney General.

Columbus Police Community Liaison Officers Scott Clinger and Lawrence Geis are being recognized for their work in innovations in community policing.

The U.S. Attorney General’s office says the officers have worked diligently to address residents’ and business owners’ concerns regarding a rash of criminal activity at several problem hotels and businesses in Columbus.

The officers were instrumental in the adoption of a new city ordinance establishing safety rules for hotels and motels. As a result, crime at hotels certain establishments has decreased significantly.

Only 12 officers nationwide to receive this recognition from Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
