Columbus Realtors: Housing Market Remains Hot

Columbus realtors say houses continue to fly off the market.

Realtors in Columbus say the central Ohio real estate market remains hot. Columbus Realtor's President John Royer says homes continue to fly off the market even as inventory begins to taper off.

The real estate group says last month saw the highest number of closed home sales of any August on record. More than 3-thousand houses and condos sold during the month. That's nearly 5 percent more than last year and 1.5 percent more than in July.

Prices were also up. The median price of a house sold in August was $174-thousand dollars. That's a 5.5 percent jump over last year.

The realtor's group says the number of houses available was down more than 20 percent from last year and houses sold in only a little more than a month on the market.

Realtors say the lack of housing inventory is the single biggest factor holding buyers back from making a home purchase.
