City leaders will hold a final public hearing tonight on the policy and implementation of police worn body cameras.
Despite last week's police involved shooting of a young boy, Tyre King, the focus of the hearing has not changed.
After months of research and several town hall meetings, police and city officials will share their plans for the use of body cameras by police. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Spokesperson for city council, Lee Cole says the hearing was scheduled last month, and despite the recent police involved shooting of Tyre King, there are no plans to change the event’s agenda.
"This is literally just for the body-worn cameras policy and implementation as it relates to the pilot project and having our officers equipped in the new year with body worn cameras," Cole said.
Columbus officials plan to begin the use of body cameras early next year.
Meanwhile, a group of local and national organizations plan to rally outside the hearing at city hall. In addition to cameras they’re demanding a change in policing tactics.
