Enhancements and more retail space may be coming to Columbus’ historic North Market. Shop owners learned Wednesday that the city – which owns North Market – will soon take proposals from real estate developers.
Retailers who attended the presentation were enthusiastic for the most part. Dareen Wearstler has owned and operated her Better Earth shop at North Market for 25 years.
“What’s not to love? Change is inevitable and we need to be able to look forward and do the best we can with our future,” Wearstler says.
The market’s executive director Rick Harrison Wolfe says an expanded and enhanced environment would be the incubator for more small businesses and startups.
“We’ve been here for 140 years. We hope to be here forever and this certainly helps us to achieve that, I believe,” Wolfe says.
Requests for proposals are scheduled to be issued sometime next month.
