New local job figures show Central Ohio continues to outpace most of the state.
As usual, western Ohio’s mercer County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate in May at 2.9 percent.
But Delaware, Madison, and Union counties weren’t far behind.
Delaware was fifth-best statewide and the best in Central Ohio with a jobless rate of 3.3 percent. The worst unemployment rate last month came in eastern Ohio’s Monroe County at 10.8 percent.
At 3.9 percent, the Columbus area had the best unemployment rate among the state’s major metro areas. That’s more than a full percent below the statewide and nationwide averages.
