More Ohioans Headed Back To Work In May

Ohio gained jobs last month. That’s according to the May jobs report released by state labor officials Friday.

The positive jobs report follows two straight reports showing job losses.

The biggest job gains in May came in the private service providing sector, which added more than 14,000 positions. It was also a good month for educational and health services, and leisure and hospitality.

Job losses were reported in manufacturing, construction, and local governments.

Even with the job gains, Ohio’s May jobless rate at 5.1 percent is higher than May of 2015, and nearly a half-percent higher than the current nationwide average.
