More Ohioans Expected To Hit The Road For Memorial Day

If you're heading out of town this Memorial Day weekend, you might want to give yourself some extra time for traffic.

Just how busy is it expected to be? The auto club AAA says they expect the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume ever, second only to 2005. Despite several straight weeks of gas price increases, AAA’s Kimberly Schwind says prices are still relatively low.

“And people during the beginning of the year saved so much money because of the gas prices. In fact, AAA estimates that Americans saved more than $18 billion on gas in the first part of this year compared to last year,” Schwind says.

Schwind also credits an improving economy and rising personal incomes for the travel bump.

She says about 1.5 million Ohioans will travels on roads and in the sky between Friday and Monday.
