City Council Reluctantly Creates Special Election For Ward Issue

Flickr Creative Commons

Columbus City Council has voted to hold a special election August 2nd for an issue to move the city to a ward-based council system.

The measure would move council from seven at-large members to three at-large members and 10 from individual districts. If approved, a new commission would have about eight months to draw those district based on population density.

Many council members have spoken out against the potential change, but were forced to put the measure before voters after backers gathered enough petition signatures.
