Mayor Ginther shares his 2016 budget at the newly renovated Glenwood rec center.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther presented his proposal for the 2016 Capital budget. The billion dollar plan includes $866 million dollars in new spending.

There's a long list of potential projects and investments that include everything from bike paths and street resurfacing to body cameras for police officers. Mayor Ginther says the largest expenditure would be in Columbus utilities.

"612 million dollars for public utilities including sanitary, electric, storm and water projects, continuing to make sure that our water and power are safe and reliable," said Ginther.

Ginther also touted 22 million for public safety that includes a new fire station on the far east side, as well as $2 million for the development of a new homeless shelter. Other plans for development and renovation focus on the Lindon and Hilltop neighborhoods.
