Zach Scott at the Franklin county primary elections

Compared to his incumbent Zach Scott, Dallas Baldwin was relatively unknown at the beginning of the primary election. Still, he took 52 percent of the vote for Franklin County Sheriff. As a retired Lieutenant and 28-year veteran of the Columbus Police Department, Baldwin says he’s hoping to work effectively with the board of county commissioners.

"My first point was to repair the relationship with the county commissioners," said Baldwin. "I’ve talked with two of the commissioners and soon to be the third commissioner and we have a great relationship, so that is soon to be repaired."

Baldwin says that the position of county sheriff needs a pragmatic leader.

"The men and women in the sheriff’s office need somebody who’s very supportive not intimidating, or not playing favorites. Somebody who will really help them to do their jobs," Said Baldwin.

His opponent Zach Scott has held the position of county sheriff since 2011 and made an unsuccessful run for Columbus Mayor last year. Zach Scott and his campaign declined our request for an interview.
