U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown plans to introduce legislation this week that would quickly alert citizens if their drinking water is unsafe. Brown's amendment comes in response to lead contamination of tap water in Flint, Michigan and now in Sebring, Ohio.
“No parents should ever worry that the water coming out of the faucets might be poisoning their children. Pregnant women should not have to fear their tap water,” Brown says.
Brown's legislation would require the federal EPA to notify water users directly within 15 days if local or state officials fail to act.
