Authorities and a gas company are investigating a house explosion in the eastern Ohio village of Newcomerstown.
There was no immediate confirmation of injuries or deaths in the explosion Tuesday night in Tuscarawas County.
A police dispatcher on Wednesday referred all calls to the State Fire Marshal’s office. Calls to that office weren’t immediately returned.
The Dover-New Philadelphia Times-Reporter reports authorities say four fire crews responded to the explosion. A statement from Columbia Gas Co. says the utility believes natural gas was involved but the utility was still investigating.
The superintendent of the Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools District says classes were canceled Wednesday due to debris on school property. Superintendent Jeff Staggs says the high school and elementary school near the house will need to be checked for any possible structural damage.
