Frontier Airlines will launch new service in Columbus with non-stops to Denver, Las Vegas and Orlando and service to Philadelphia.
The last time Frontier Airlines offered flights from Port Columbus they were to Milwaukee.
“It wasn’t sort of a route that the average person would say I … want to go to Milwaukee next month," said Frontier Chief Commercial Officer Daniel Shurz.
Shurz said in the past 18 months the airline has cut costs and is turning “healthy profits.”
“And we think it’s a good opportunity now as we start to grow to enter new markets, and in this case, re-enter a market we’ve already been in," Shurz said.
But the company has pulled service from Port Columbus twice since 2012. Shurz said the airline is different than what is was a few years ago.
“I think we convince folks that we’re a key part of the Columbus offering in terms of choice, by flying to where people want to go. And I think that’s the big difference this time around. We’re flying to big destinations.”
Later this spring, Frontier will offer daily, non-stop flights to Denver and Las Vegas. There also will be service to Orlando and Philly.
"Port Columbus is thrilled that Frontier will once again be among the airlines providing quality air service to Central Ohio passengers." said David Whitaker, Vice President of Communications for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.
Introductory fares offered through this Sunday will be as low as $19.
But Joe Brancatelli, Business Travel Columnist for Business First, said don't be fooled by the low fares. He noted most everything outside the fare will cost extra.
“Virtually nothing is included in that fare. Everything you want except using the bathroom and your seat belt will cost extra," Brancatelli said.
Frontier also recently expanded service in Cleveland and Cincinnati.
