A three-judge state appeals court panel is considering a suspended Ohio juvenile court judge's bid to overturn her conviction last year of unlawful interest in a public contract.
Attorney David Singleton argued Monday in a packed 1st District Court of Appeals courtroom that the jury wasn't properly polled about its verdict in Judge Tracie Hunter's trial. There was no indication of when the appeals court will rule.
She was sentenced to six months in jail on her conviction on a single count but remains free on appeal. A jury deadlocked on other charges against her, and she faces another trial Jan. 19 on counts that include tampering with evidence and theft in office.
Hunter, a Democrat, has called the prosecution a "political takedown" by the county Republican Party.
